The Insignificance of Our Words and What God Has Told Us

Recently I was extremely humbled by how insignificant my words are.

Why would anyone choose to read them? Why would mine be picked above anyone else's? Sure, I may work hard at my writing, but in the big picture, they're insignificant.

So why would I have anything meaningful to say?

If you've read the book of Exodus, you probably remember when God speaks to Moses through the burning bush. I love the movie The Prince of Egypt and how they brought that scene to life. Every single time I watch the scene, it brings the words of the Scriptures alive for me. The powerful music and the voice of God fills me with awe and wonder. What it always impresses on me is how powerful and great God is---and the miracle that he loves us anyway.

In the scene from the film, there are different times where God's voice roars and fills the space around him, and other times where it whispers gently and lovingly, wrapping around Moses like an embrace.

But my favorite part is what the Bible tells us God promises Moses:

But Moses said to the LORD, “Oh, my Lord, I am not eloquent, either in the past or since you have spoken to your servant, but I am slow of speech and of tongue.” Then the LORD said to him, “Who has made man’s mouth? Who makes him mute, or deaf, or seeing, or blind? Is it not I, the LORD? Now therefore go, and I will be with your mouth and teach you what you shall speak.” - Exodus 4:10-13 ESV

God didn't need Moses' help to free his people. But he wanted him.

God doesn't need us to tell stories.

But he wants us.

That brings us back to the question, Why would you and I have anything meaningful to say?

What God says is: “Who has made man’s mouth? Who makes him mute, or deaf, or seeing, or blind? Is it not I, the LORD? Now therefore go, and I will be with your mouth and teach you what you shall speak.”

God will give you the words to speak. He is your mouth. All you have to do is ask him to speak through you. Ask him to be your mouth. Ask him to write your story the way he wants it to be told.

God doesn't need us. But he loves us anyway.

And he wants us.

He wants you.

"Now therefore, go."

So very true, Emma! It is absolutely humbling that the God of the Universe invites us to be part of what He is doing! Yes! Go forth! 🤗
