Greetings, friends! Thanks to my friend Bella Raine who tagged me, today I'm delighted to be participating in The Get To Know Ya Book Tag where I'll be answering questions about some of my personal favorite (or possibly least favorite) books!
Your favorite book of all time
The Princess and Curdie
George MacDonald
This is by far my all-time favorite book. Sequel to MacDonald's famous novel The Princess and the Goblin, it has really impacted my faith and my writing philosophy. I regularly reread passages of it almost like I reread the Bible; it just has so much to offer and is such a beautiful story.
Your favorite book 5 years ago
Anne of Green Gables
L. M. Montgomery
When I was ten years old I went through a total Anne phase. I read all the books in a matter of weeks and then had an Anne of Green Gables birthday party. This book will always have a special place in my heart---and it's also the cause of my family nickname "Emma-girl".
Your favorite duology/trilogy/series
Harry Potter
J. K. Rowling
While there are definitely other book series that come close like The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, when it comes to the book series most loved in my reading life the Harry Potter books will win every time. Harry Potter is everything that was the best about my childhood---Late nights staying up reading, long conversations with friends about what we guess will happen in the next book, waiting for long months to be allowed to continue the series, dressing up with all our best friends as the different characters for our fall festival, late night Harry Potter movie nights...the list goes on and on.
The last book you read
Believe It
Nick Foles
My brother got this book for Christmas per my recommendation, and after he read it I quickly stole it from him and read it myself. I love football, and I love reading books from Christian athletes. This was a great book with a great message, and I really appreciated Foles humility.
The last book of poetry you read
Poetic Surrender
Molly McTernan
This was a wonderful poetry book by my young friend Molly McTernan. I loved reading all of her poems and I know she has great things in her future.
A book that most influenced your life
Sir Gibbie
George MacDonald
This book was an inspiration to me. It wasn't an easy read, part of the book being written in Gaelic, but it was so incredibly worth it. Just like The Princess and Curdie I regularly reread it and can easily cite it as the most influential book of my life.
A book that made you cry
A Tale of Two Cities
Charles Dickens
I don't know when I've cried so hard reading, but A Tale of Two Cities made me literally weep. Even on a brief reread when I read parts of the book over for the second time, I still found myself crying. I think everyone should read this book. If I ever have the honor of screenwriting or directing a classic film, I would choose this book. I know it's been brought to the screen on a number of occasions, but I would still love to bring it to life.
A book that made you laugh
Alcatraz VS the Evil Librarians
Brandon Sanderson
Rotating Rothfusses, this book and the subsequent books of the series have made me laugh more than any other books ever. They're a family favorite in our house and my siblings and I quote them constantly. Sanderson sneaks real wisdom into an uproarously funny story. Example:
"Fame...is like a cheeseburger. It's only years later that you realize what it's done to your heart."
A character you'd like to be for a day
This would have to be Hermione Granger. She's not only one of my favorite literary characters, but I'd absolutely love to attend a school day in Hogwarts and maybe take a little ride on a broomstick (Quidditch forever!).
A book you did not finish
I dnf this book for many reasons, but mainly it was because it was silly, pointless, and though written by a Christian it borderline encouraged the reading of very immoral and inappropriate books. I do not recommend this book. Don't waste your time or money.
A book you are excited to read
Tress of the Emerald Sea
Brandon Sanderson
Sanderson is one of my favorite authors and I'm super excited to read one of his newer Cosmere novels Tress of the Emerald Sea! I've only heard good things about it and it sounds like it's going to be right up my alley.

Tress is great. I finished it recently and enjoyed it immensely.
Rotating Rothfusses! Is that a real one from the book? Man, I gotta reread that series now that I know more about the world of epic fantasy—that's a fun Easter Egg!
Ahh, I just Tress Of The Emerald Sea from the library! First, I had Skyward, but I decided it might be better to start with a stand alone.
Alright I’ll make it happen haha!!
This was great, Emma!
Yiiiipppeeee you did it Emma!!! Ack those are all amazing books!!! Tale Of Two Cities is on my TBR list, since I've heard nothing but praise!!!
