Into the Lantern Waste: A Review

Updated: Aug 1, 2023

I was opening Spotify when I found it.

The first thing that drew my attention on the Home page was the amazing cover. Creative and brilliant, I was at once interested. Curiously clicking on it, the song that caught my eye first was titled Eustace Scrubb. I played immediately.

From the first notes I knew that I was going to love the song. The raw acoustics and voice of musician Sarah Sparks was exactly the kind of genre of music I love best, not to mention that it had a wonderful message and was a ballad on one of my favorite Narnia scenes, when Eustace the dragon is saved by Aslan.

Looking over the rest of the songs, I saw that they were similar, all about Narnia, and that there was at least one song for each of the books in the series.

Into the Lantern Waste by Sarah Sparks is officially one of the best albums I’ve listened to this year. Sarah really captured Lewis’ style and heart in her folk music and brought it alive. Any Narnia fan—and I mean any fan—will appreciate this album. So far my personal favorites are Eustace Scrubb, Shasta’s Complaint, Digory’s Regret, and Come Further Up.

Even if you haven’t read The Chronicles of Narnia, if you love folk music, ballads, and Christian music you will enjoy this album.
