Choir: A Poem

Updated: Aug 1, 2023

I think that the human voice is by far the most beautiful instrument. I have been to several choral concerts and am in a choir myself, so I wrote a poem about when a choir sings.

Choir

Silence, hanging in the air

Silence, waiting and listening intently

Silence, thick, without a care

Silence, waiting to be broken intentionally.

Chord, a note upon the keys

Chord, a pianist’s note comes free

Chord, take the opportunity, seize

Chord, a breath from silent we.

Song, it breaks the silence clear

Song, so many voices sound

Song, so full it brings a tear

Song, it cuts the air around.

Silence, no longer waiting

Silence, many eyes are blinking

Silence, contemplating

Silence, full of quiet thinking.

Over, quiet footsteps tread

Over, the choir is gone

Over, the choir has now left

But never will their song.
